Counting on a reset shutter count (from just the serial number) and finding out later that the assembly may not be replaced would be a bummer. The Nikon D750 has a shutter count limit of 150,000, meaning that the shutter can be released a maximum of 150,000 times before it needs to be replaced. I haven’t seen any official word from Nikon whether some or all of the recall eligible 750s get a new shutter assembly, but it may be worth looking into. The total shutter count can be useful when selling a Nikon DSLR on sites like eBay or Craigslist. The shutter count can be found in the EXIF data of an image file, or by using a third-party tool to read the EXIF data from the camera. From a post yesterday, some people said that the shutter count is only reset if the assembly is replaced, implying that even eligible models may not require the rebuild after diagnostics at Nikon. It’s also not clear whether every 750 that is shipped back for the recall gets the full shutter assembly rebuild. I got a 750 from B&H in September 2016, and just recently found out it was eligible for the recall (shipping out today!). Short of getting the serial number, if you can find out when it was bought it may help you guess eligibility for the recall.Īt first the recall was for early production runs, but was later extended to units sold as late as late 2016 IIRC.
